My role was as a UI Architect, responsible for establishing the UI architecture guidelines, framework, and overseeing the work of 5 other engineers. I worked directly with our Product and Design teams to maintain consistency and milestones.
My choice of ExtJS (now Sencha) as the UI framework stemmed it's capabilities handling and transforming data for the UI layer with relative ease, and it's easy to implement MVC pattern. However, we took customization and styling of the UI to an extent even Sencha remarked they had never seen a customer do with their framework.
The goal of this application was to provide a visual way for System Administrators to see the health of their global network, and be notified quickly of any faulty equipment. The application polled their network resources, and when a problem was identified allow the user to visually drill down into a representation of the device, and see that status down to each individual port. From there, technicians could be notified and dispatched to correct the issue.
